Acosta Sales Building
Marlboro, MA

A new six-story 120,000 SF office building was constructed into the
hillside of a sloping site. The first floor slab was used as a diaphragm
to transfer interior soil loads to the sidewalls of the basement.
To accommodate meeting rooms at the first floor level, four interior
columns were transferred. Due to headroom constraints, a Vierendeil
moment frame was utilized to transfer the vertical loads and resist
lateral seismic and wind loads. Lateral bracing was incorporated in
one axis of the building by utilizing stair and elevator walls.
