Due to time constraints, a data center was created within an existing building. The existing structure was framed with a precast concrete plank floor and a steel frame. The high cooling demands of the data center required a “forest” of chillers and air handling units to be supported on the roof. To avoid snow drifting, the supporting platforms were raised above the roof level and posted down into the existing columns. The existing columns and footings were reinforced as required to support the existing loads.
