EMC/HOP I-HOP II Connector Link
Hopkinton, MA
The main engineering headquarters were located
on the same site separated by 100 feet. The separation was further
complicated by the misalignment of floor levels. A connector link
with a central cafeteria, meeting rooms and lobby was designed to
link the two structures. In order to accommodate the program, 100
feet of foundation wall was underpinned and tied back to allow the
basement level to be excavated 12 feet below the slab on grade level
of the existing building. A curved horizontal structural bridge supported
the curved curtain wall. To accommodate HVAC ducting, a Stub-Girder
Framing system was used to further minimize structural beam depths.
