The Elliot at River’s Edge
- Location:Manchester, New Hampshire
Working with CUBE3 Studio, Veitas and Veitas was tasked with designing a new medical campus consisting of an ambulatory healthcare center, a medical office building and functionality for urgent care, diagnostic imaging, cardiac rehabilitation and other specialized medical services. Labor and operating room space located on the third floor had to be designed to accommodate medical equipment and floor vibration requirements. Not only was this a complex healthcare facility with significant structural needs and mechanical requirements, but the buildings needed to fit into a steeply sloping remediated brownfield site.
The Elliot healthcare campus, which was completed on schedule and on budget, was one of the first facilities in the country to register for LEED for Healthcare status. Accommodating the sloping site meant designing a series of stepped foundation walls that would allow the structure to step down into the site and lean against the basement walls facing the parking garage. The 255,000 SF, 7-story building was designed in steel. It includes a 110,000 SF ambulatory health care center and an 80,000-square-foot office building, and houses 30 medical departments. A precast concrete parking garage for nearly 1,000 cars was also included.
